How to Get Your Shopify Products Into Perplexity Shopping

Perplexity charges no listing fees and takes no commissions. Shoppers arriving from Perplexity spend 57% more per order. Most Shopify merchants have never set this up.

Perplexity Shopping charges nothing to list products and takes no cut of sales. Perplexity built its business on Pro subscriptions, not merchant fees. That means every sale through Perplexity keeps 100% of its revenue with the merchant, with no per-transaction cost on top of standard payment processing.

Perplexity shoppers spend 57% more per order than shoppers arriving from other AI platforms. The intent is higher. Perplexity's audience asks specific questions and buys what answers them. Most Shopify merchants have never set this up.

Perplexity Shopping at a glance

What your Shopify store gets by default

Shopify stores that allow PerplexityBot in robots.txt get crawled. Perplexity reads your product pages and can include your products in shopping results without any setup from you. This is the baseline every store gets.

Crawling is not the Merchant Program. A store that Perplexity crawls gets no in-platform checkout, no performance dashboard, and no direct relationship with Perplexity for managing how products surface. Perplexity crawls the store. It does not treat the store as a formal merchant partner.

Check your robots.txt now. PerplexityBot must be listed under its own User-agent block with Allow: /. A wildcard User-agent: * block covers it, but an explicit block confirms the intent. Without crawl access, your products don't appear in Perplexity results at all, Merchant Program or not.

What the Merchant Program actually unlocks

The Perplexity Merchant Program gives you three things the crawl path doesn't:

Unlock 1

Buy with Pro checkout

Perplexity Pro subscribers can complete a purchase inside Perplexity's interface without clicking through to your store. The transaction runs through PayPal. Products with Buy with Pro enabled get a ranking boost in Perplexity's product discovery results. Perplexity's own data confirms this.

Unlock 2

Performance dashboard

The dashboard shows impressions, clicks, and conversion by product. You can see which SKUs Perplexity shoppers engage with and which ones get ignored. Without it, you're flying blind on what Perplexity actually surfaces from your catalog.

Unlock 3

Direct feed management

Merchant Program members submit a product feed in Google Shopping CSV format via SFTP. This gives you control over what data Perplexity reads, rather than relying on the crawler to pull it from product pages without errors.

How to apply

The Merchant Program application is a five-step form. You need your business name, website URL, contact information, and product category. Perplexity reviews each submission and reaches out to accepted merchants with next steps.

1

Find the application

Search "Perplexity Merchant Program" or go to perplexity.ai and look for the merchant partner link. The form is public, no referral required.

2

Fill in the five fields

Business name, website URL, contact email, product category, and a brief description of what you sell. The form takes under five minutes.

3

Wait for review

Perplexity reviews submissions and contacts accepted merchants with next steps. Approval runs 3 to 7 business days for most applicants.

4

Submit your product feed

Once accepted, Perplexity provides SFTP credentials. Submit your product feed in Google Shopping CSV format. Shopify merchants can export this from the Google & YouTube channel or use a feed app.

5

Connect Buy with Pro

Link your PayPal business account to activate in-platform checkout. Once connected, eligible products show the Buy with Pro button in Perplexity shopping results.

What your catalog needs to get recommended

Perplexity recommends products from merchants whose data it can verify. Three fields determine whether your products surface:

Required

GTIN on every product

The Global Trade Item Number is Perplexity's primary matching signal. It cross-references GTINs against other sources to verify product identity and pricing accuracy. A product without a GTIN is hard to verify and gets skipped more often. Treat missing GTINs as blocking errors, not optional fields.

Required

Accurate pricing, visible in HTML

Perplexity checks the price in your schema markup against the price visible on the product page. Mismatches get flagged. A product whose schema shows one price and whose page shows another looks unreliable and gets deprioritized. Both sources need to match.

Required

Real-time inventory status

Perplexity shoppers in a buying mindset abandon when they land on an out-of-stock product page. Perplexity knows this. Merchants whose inventory data lags or shows sold-out products as available get lower recommendation priority. Confirm your sync runs in real time.

Technical checklist

The window is right now

Perplexity is growing its merchant base. Categories that look competitive in six months are open today. Merchants who join the Merchant Program now build performance data before their product niche fills up.

The setup takes under an hour once your product data is clean. The application itself takes five minutes. The only real prerequisite is a catalog with GTINs, accurate pricing, and real-time inventory — the same data your store needs to surface on any AI shopping platform.
